Health and Safety Specialist / 3 Month Contract

We are recruiting for Arcelor Mittal for a 3 month contract for a Health and Safety Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years experience! Great position for semi-retired Health and Safety Specialist! The following are the responsibilities:

Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support on regulatory compliance of AMHE�s various Health and Safety initiatives.

Provide guidance and direction on AMHE�s Environmental Initiatives to maintain and build upon its reputation as a proactive best-in-class corporate citizen.

Assures that AMHE continuously improves our Health and Safety and Environmental performance while maintaining compliance with all Municipal, Provincial and Federal Environmental and Health and Safety Regulations as well as adhering to Corporate Standards.

Serve as Co-chair on the AMHE Joint Health and Safety Committee

Serve as Board of Director and Technical Committee Member for AMHE on the Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association (HIEA). HIEA is a non-profit association whose members represent local private sector industries and provides for an open forum for community representatives and local associations to discuss environmental concerns regarding their respective communities.

Serve as the Primary Account Representative for AMHE in Ontario�s Cap and Trade Program for Green House Gas Emissions. Manage the AMHE Compliance Instrument Tracking System Service (CITSS) account with the authority to take-action on our behalf.

Provide daily guidance and direction in programs related to Health and Safety and the Environment at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.

Serve as an representative/liaison for AMHE with a variety of external entities
including Federal, Provincial and Municipal Agencies, Customers, Suppliers, industry related groups and
community organizations.

Review and recommend improvements to the program management systems to ensure that AMHE�s various Health and Safety and Environmental certifications and compliance efforts are maintained.

Manage AMHE�s Short Term Disability Program for salary and bargaining unit employees.

Coordinate mill specific external safety training (examples include: First Aid, Lift Truck Training, Work at Heights, Aerial/Man Lift, Basic Certification, etc.).

Coordinate and provide in-house Health and Safety training for all employees.

Coordinate activities for AMHE�s annual Health and Safety Day.

Maintain confidential Employee Health File for bargaining unit and salary employees.

Designated first aid responder for medical emergencies for day shift employees.

You must have excellent communication and organizational skills and experience in a steel plant is a definite bonus!

Pay- $44-$50/hr
