Software Developer Team Leader

Reports to: Manager, IT Development

Scope of the Position:

The incumbent will have a strong client focus in order to create programs to the highest standard of quality by adhering to established standards and procedures. Eye for detail, time-management, problem-solving, communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and deliver successful outcomes are integral to this role.

Major Responsibilities: Standards + Training

Design and code quality programs in a Microsoft Windows environmentWork with various data sources
Complete all programming to schedule and within the estimated time limit
Learn and support all internal systems; resolve issues quickly and efficiently
Adhere to departmental and company standards, processes and procedures
Deliver programs of the highest quality which meet or exceed clients’ expectations
Incorporate industry and product specific knowledge coupled with an understanding of operational functionality to plan the most effective and efficient method of fulfilling customer requirements
Provide feedback to Manager with respect to: attention to approach, consistency, re-usability, quality, documentation style, completeness and development methodology
Working in a live production environment, provide technical support to all team members
Liaise with other areas of the business for effective workflow
Train, develop and mentor the team members.
UpgradesDevelop and maintain scripts for promotion and monitoring of softwareResponsibility for development process
Responsible for performing Code reviews, code promotion
SystemsTrouble shooting, maintenance and upgrades of systems
Develop systems that increase operational throughput, improve efficiency, and reduce operating costs on an ongoing basis
Create code that is robust, scalable and modular

Coverage
Provide support of all systems in a timely manner, including after-hours / on-call support when scheduled or escalated.

Decision making & Problem Solving
Design and architect programs in conjunction with peer members. Participate in review process to finalize new systemsEnsure all jobs are correct and verify specifications with the Business Analyst

Staff

Review and complete performance appraisals for the programming staffAchieve and report on KPI’s as set by ManagerAssists Manager in making recruiting and staffing decisions

Skills and Experience Required:
A minimum of 10 years programming experience in a commercial environment, including 3 years of leading a Software Development Team
Previous experience with Perl programming language and MS SQL Server is preferred
Working knowledge with Microsoft stack (.NET, C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET, Visual Studio, TFS)
Proven experience in developing agile software teams and applying best practices with a strong understanding of the overall software development process
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, but also in a team environment
Ability to develop positive, working relationships
Ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks and exhibit strong time management skills to achieve successful outcomes with attention to detail
Ability to meet short and unexpected deadlinesPositive, enthusiastic attitude, self-motivation and strong work ethic
Ability to work well under pressure and remain calm and focusedPossess the drive and commitment to make a difference
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalentStrong written and verbal English skills
